STARTING DURING STOCKHOLM DESIGN WEEK 2010

Berns Salonger has chosen to collaborate with designer, Monica Förster, during Stockholm Design Week.
The outcome of this partnership is an exhibition that innovatively interweaves Berns Salonger's impressive history with contemporary design.

For the third year in a row and as a further step towards profiling Berns within fashion, design, music and art, we are organising an exciting exhibition during Stockholm Design Week. The exhibition will also reinforce Berns' position as the natural meeting place during design week.

Berns' MD, Yvonne Sörensen Björud and Monica Förster, who have been engaging in a dialogue for quite some time, have previous experience of working on projects together. Monica Förster's leather footstool, "Esedra", designed for the Italian company Poltrona Frau, was the first piece of furniture to be selected for the 17 new hotel rooms and suites at Berns Hotel. The rooms were designed by Yvonne in cooperation with the interior designer, Franz Hardinger, and opened in 2009. "Monica has a huge respect for craftsmanship, and her designs range from producing progressive candles for Liljeholmens Stearinfabrik to commissions on behalf of international furniture producers. She possesses a very astute spatial sense," says Yvonne Sörensen Björud.

Berns has a strong Asian connection due to the fact that Stockholm's first Asian restaurant opened here in 1944. This restaurant lives on as Berns Asian. In an exhibition of XL proportions and with its inspiration drawn from Japanese paper art, Monica Förster unites Berns' Asian history with the work process in her studio.

The "Monica Förster at Berns" exhibition opens on Monday, 8th February at Berns Asian, and will run until Sunday, 14th March, inclusive.
