Säby

In the making of SÄBY’s fifth collection, fall/winter 2009, the Swedish designer Karin Säby was inspired by the Swedish author Astrid Lindgren as well as other prominent women characters. The items are, as always at SÄBY, elegant and feminine and are made in exclusive materials such as cashmere, virgin wool and pure silk but also some experimental new interesting fibres. Flounces appear in both classical and more experimental interpretations. 

Some of the key items for this season is the “Madicken” dress, a high collared dress where the apron from the twenties gets a new look. The corset has also found a new appearance with SÄBY, and comes as a detailed belt, jacket, skirt and wasp-like coat.

The season’s range of colour goes from chocolate brown tones to nude shades of pink and  dark metal green to pale purple. SÄBY is made for women who want to feel feminine and exclusive – both when going out at night as well as in their every day life.

The dreams of becoming a successful designer within the fashion business started when Karin Säby was a renowned fashion model. During those years Karin worked with many of the fashion industries most renowned designers such as Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Ungaro, Channel and many others. Karin has now settled down in Stockholm after many years of commuting between Paris and New York. It is also in Stockholm she has been trained as a seamstress and has accomplished her degree in patternmaking. Karin has also lead courses in knitting techniques, mentored by Margareta Beck, for students at Konstfack and Beckmans Design School in Stockholm.
