Joy Orbison (Hinge Finger, Meandyou) & Kornél Kovacs (Studio Barnhus)
JOY ORBISON’S brand of garage-house has been celebrated for finding a sound that marries elements of house, two-step, jungle, techno and dubstep. Alongside the release of the gargantuan “Hyph Mngo” (released on Hot Flush in late 2009) and material on his own imprint, Doldrums, notorious mixes for Radio 1 and Ministry have only served to cement Joy Orbison’s renown.”The clear, pure dancefloor high this formula provides is unarguable” WIRE”Somehow euphoric yet mournful, banging yet sad, drenched in keyboards, and rhythmically straddling the previously uncharted terrain between dubstep, garage and house.” – Guardian”A euphoric and percussive wet dream.” – Dazed & Confused”Every time the two introductory notes ring out in a darkened room, it’s impossible not to stifle a smile or hide your excitement at the drop that awaits.KORNÉL KOVAC’S bass-driven, vocal-laced spooky house jam found on the first release of his own Studio Barnhus label – Baby Step, lies a lifetime of dedication to dance music, club culture and straight up hustling. Kornél was born in Sweden by Hungarian parents. At the age of 14 he was the youngest ever former jungle dj in Scandinavia. In his twenties Kornél started hosting the legendary P3 Dans show on Swedish national radio, partook in the 2008 Red Bull Music Academy and played a smashing peak time set for a packed Sonar By Day stage in 2009. Then came his crown achievement in life: Starting up the record label / dj trio / insane clown posse Studio Barnhus together with Petter Nordkvist and Axel Boman. Kornél’s music is played by dance aficionados as diverse as Michael Mayer, A Made Up Sound, Matt John and John Talabot and his dj skills are godlike, so let’s go.
