Johanna Knutsson & Steve O’Sullivan

Three days before x-mas our resident Johanna Knutsson is back. As an early present to us all she brings Steve O’Sullivan of Mosaic and Sushitech.

Regarding Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus (aka Maurizio) as his main influence, Steve produces slowly evolving, very minimal, soulful club tracks on his labels Bluetrain and Green, showing his love for subtle sounds and dub effects. He also ran the Bluespirit label, on which he collaborated with Ben Sims, Lee Grainge and Russ Gabriel. The legendary Bluespirit series comprised four 12″ singles and sounded housier than Steve’s ultradeep minimal dub techno on his more recent outings (such as Bluetrain #04, ‘Echo Freaks’).Steve is the owner of the Mosaic label, which offers a sound between house and techno and features, apart from his own productions as The Wise Caucasian and Ephebe, releases from Paul Mac, Aubrey, Downlink, Mark Broom and Mark Ambrose, to name just a few. On Pure Plastic, Steve produced a 12″ together with Lee Grainge as ‘Original Vintage’.

Johanna Knutsson caught the music bug in 2008, she promptly moved to Berlin from her native Sweden, buying her very own set of Technics and a mixer along the way. Finding her inspiration Berlin’s people, clubs and surroundings, it wasn’t long before Johanna was well and truly entrenched in the city’s vast and varied music scene. 2010 saw Johanna sign to independent Berlin based label, Klasse Recordings. Her first release “Heavy baby” (featuring a Minilogue remix) was released in March 2011. A few months later Johanna remixed the award winning Swedish band This is Head’s track “De Trop” in October 2011. In April 2012 her second EP “Support EP” came out with remixes from both Esther Duijn and Sacha Robotti and since then she has collaborated with Hans Berg.

The duo has 3 EP’s coming out mid 2013 on Fullbarr, Klasse Recordings (incl October and Joel Alter remix) and The Free Spirit Society. Their first alster was a remix of Shane Berry – Akaforte, released early 2013 on Thoughtless MusicSince beginning her journey into dj/producerdom Johanna has played at a number of esteemed clubs in Berlin including about://blank, Salon zur Wilden Renate, Horst, Tresor, Farbfernseher as well as several clubs around Europe and shared the booths with idols like Luke Hess, Move D and Ulf Eriksson to name a few.In May 2011 she started to host a monthly show in National Swedish Radio (called Musikguiden) where she is sharing her finest deep, dub and house tracks with the Scandinavian audience. Every second Thursday of the month she delivers a 2 hour long set for Sweat Lodge Radio.
