Axel Boman & Roman Flügel

This fall Axel Boman will take charge of your musical experience on several evenings in Gallery 2.35:1. The 13th of September will offer it’s fare share of house, techno and other twisted beats when Axel is joined in the booth by one of the founders of legendary Playhouse and an innovator of the genre, Roman Flügel.

Fascinated by the early Chicago house young Roman Flügel started visiting Sven Väth’s club The Omen in the early 80’s. At the club he was litterly knocked out by nights hosted by Underground Resistance and Warp Recordings. Together with friend and partner Jörn Elling Wuttke he founded Alter Ego and the legendary label Playhouse that became the home for artists like Ricardo Villalobos, Losoul and Isolée. Flügels DJ-sets are a product of 20 years of collecting records chopped up in house, techno, italo disco and probably one or two obscure records.

Axel Boman broke through with his 2010 EP Holy Love for DJ Koze’s Pampa Records. The track Purple Drank became an instant classic in underground house music circles – since then, Boman has toured extensively and done remixes for the likes of Justus Köhncke, DJ Hell, Agaric, Dave Aju and Harald Björk. He is also a co-founder of the label Studio Barnhus. 2013 kicks off with the Black Magic Boman EP on British label Hypercolour, later in the year a debut album will arrive on Studio Barnhus. His more experimental side gets exposure in the form of The Radioactive Orchestra, an artistic and musical project together with Georg Herlitz  and media artist Kristofer Hagbard, about creating music using radioactive isotopes. Boman’s music has been described as “raw, playful and drenched in oceans of soul”. He graduated with a master’s degree from Valand School of Fine Arts in 2010.
