A night for Börje | Berns
About

Berns once again hosted the memorable gala evening “A Night for Börje,” an event that honors the memory of hockey legend Börje Salming and supports the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This second edition of the gala, organized by the Börje Salming ALS Foundation in collaboration with Berns, was an emotional occasion that highlighted the strength of community and commitment to finding a cure for this devastating disease.

Börje Salming, a pioneer in ice hockey, was known as one of the first European players to make a successful mark in the NHL. With his courage and tireless will, he paved the way for future generations of European talents to follow his footsteps across the Atlantic. After growing up in Kiruna and playing for Kiruna AIF, his journey continued to Brynäs IF and then to North America where he established himself as one of the greats in hockey. His commitment to the sport continued even after his playing career, through roles as a coach and mentor, demonstrating his lifelong passion for hockey.

Börje Salming, who tragically passed away on November 24, 2022, due to ALS, not only left an imprint on the ice but also off it as an active participant in charity work and community engagement. It was with this spirit of generosity and commitment that “A Night for Börje” once again lit up the halls of Berns in The Ballroom, a venue synonymous with both historical charm and cultural vitality in the heart of Stockholm.

This year’s gala was an evening filled with both laughter and tears, where the solidarity among the guests was palpable. Among the distinguished speakers was skiing legend Ingemar Stenmark, whose words touched and inspired. It was an evening that not only honored Börje Salming’s legacy but also strengthened the resolve to continue the fight against ALS.

As a proud partner of the Börje Salming ALS Foundation, Berns is dedicated to contributing to this charitable cause. It is with great humility and respect that Berns continues to be a place where historical and significant events can occur, where the community can gather not only to honor the memory of a great sportsman but also to actively contribute to scientific advances against ALS.

Thanks to events like “A Night for Börje” at Berns, we have the opportunity to collectively hope for and work towards a future where ALS can be defeated. It is our hope to continue this tradition of hope and community every year, in the heart of Stockholm at Berns, where we together create moments that make a difference.
